phancy.com rating:

phancy.com notes: Woof. The basic plot is fine, but would be creepier with a better payoff if the main character weren't such a garbage person. She's a truly reprehensible narcissist with the eomtional intelligence and humor of a spoiled child. She makes everything worse for everyone in this movie and is a grating presence to watch. Sadly, the movie presents her as the hero of the story and suggests that she's actually funny, which... Ugh. I have concerns about anyone that finds this movie entertaining.

Your tolerance for braindead provocation will probably determine how much you enjoy the live-stream found footage chiller "Dashcam," an hour-plus-long horror movie about an obnoxious internet troll who gets chased around by a supernatural entity who sprays blood, feces, and urine. You might admire the filmmakers' commitment to being as nasty as they want to be, especially given that this movie's from the same creative team as the goofy but fitfully creepy Zoom séance pic "Host." You also might find "Dashcam" to be just another button-mashing genre exercise, only with a ton of gross-out gags and some cool-looking stunt work.

The problem with making the protagonist of your horror movie an unlikable human being is that, at the risk of being redundant, the protagonist of your horror movie is an unlikable human being. Some might find Hardy's character an amusing train wreck, but your mileage will certainly vary. To the rest of us, she's simply difficult to deal with for even the film's skimpy 77-minute running time. In many horror movies, she'd be the character who'd either die first or die late in the film just so they can make life harder for the real heroes before meeting their third-act, thematically-approved demise.
